happy birthday, mama 🩷

I’ve recently re-listened to a lot of older worship music that I grew up on. It reminds me of a time when my life and my faith was so much simpler. Singing at the top of my lungs with the utmost conviction to these songs that lifted the Lord’s name on high and above ALL else.

Going back to these albums, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude that these hymns were written in my heart before I even knew the slightest taste of pain, rejection, suffering, and doubt. While Jane Boline walked through life committed to knowing Him more deeply, serving Him more wholeheartedly, and showing others who He is, she sang these songs. While she washed dishes, laughed with friends, and parented through the good, the bad, and the ugly, these songs played over it all.

Her birthday reminds me of so many joys and blessings of who she is, and gosh, it makes me miss her and grieve all that we won’t experience that much more. In a recent sermon, Paige Brown said, “Faith does not eliminate questions; it knows where to take them”. I’m so thankful my mom’s surrender showed me where, because she led by example.

On February 25, I feel a deep peace as I listen to Mac Powell of Third Day sing, “nothing compares to the greatness of knowing you, Lord”. It’s true for me, and I know it’s true for my mom too. So her celebration in His Presence is incomparable.
