The Greatest Hero

“His perfect Love would not be overcome. Now death, where is your sting? Our RESURRECTED KING has rendered you DEFEATED!!”- “Forever” Kari Jobe

Happy Easter, yall!

Quick thought: Think of your very favorite hero. A hero that has overcome against all odds, who champions the little guy, and who fights tirelessly for the Good.

This hero could be a family member who has overcome extreme illness, your favorite childhood superhero, or simply your mom or dad. (Which Lord knows, they are heroes every single day in a million small ways)

I think it’s pretty obvious who my hero is (hint hint: starts with a J and ends with –ESUS! 😉 )

But, if I think back to my childhood, one of my favorite heroic moments was in The Lion King. I used to watch this movie every Saturday with my dad. (and no, it never got old!) For some reason, the final scene where Simba faces off against Scar, the lion who killed his dad, I have always felt a sense of inspiration for the way Simba fights The Good Fight. The lions circle each other, and the feelings grow more and more tense, and finally, the Good Guy wins.

So, yes, this sounds childish. (And it is okay to giggle at me a bit) But think back to that hero, and picture him/her in a moment of trial and finally overcoming all obstacles to claim victory.

This is what Easter is truly about.

We have the Greatest Hero of all time, Jesus Christ.

Unlike, Simba, or Batman, or your great Aunt Judy, Jesus was and is perfect. During His time on Earth, he did not commit a single sin.

Let’s think about this for a second. How many sins to I commit a day? Do I always choose to honor my father and mother? Do I refrain from gossip? Do I feed my body with only nutrition to value the temple the Lord gave me? If you know me (and my slight obsession with midnight cookies), you know this is unfortunately not true!!

But Our Savior? He is perfect. In his time on the earth, He fed the hungry, healed the sick, comforted the broken-hearted, and reached out to the excluded. But he wasn’t just charitable. He also always honored the commands of His Father, He never lied nor cheated, nor spoke one bad word about a person.

The best part about Our Hero?
We don’t have to watch the battle between good and evil in suspense. We don’t have to worry that Our Hero might not win. We don’t have to wait to see who conquers who.

OUR SAVIOR IS VICTORIOUS!!

Our one perfect Father is without sin. He hung on the cross to cover each and every little sin, so that we may live a life eternally in Heaven by His side, and HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD!!

Take a moment to think of the despair of the disciples, the believers, and of course, his mother Mary on that Saturday. Silence. Death. They felt that evil had won. That their perfect Savior was splattered with the blood and sins of all mankind and the enemy claimed victory.

But he ROSE from the grave. He rose to give us a pathway into the Kingdom of Heaven. He rose to live within us as The Holy Spirit.

Death is defeated.

THIS is the hero we can all rally behind. This is the hero that each of us can put our trust in.

We should be in awe of His love, His mercy, His grace. Because even when Jesus had not committed a single sin, he hung in humiliation to make a way for a sinner like me to enter into the Highest Kingdom.

So on this Resurrection Day, I sing the highest of praises to my Lord and Savior, my Hero that made a way to Heaven, who reigns victorious forever.

“Blessed be the God and Father our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in Heaven for you.”
– 1 Peter 1:3-4
